Description:

JP Concerts presents: The 30 Days Project, music by composer Linda Kernohan, performed by members of the Inter-NEC Collective. Suggested donation $10 at the door.

On August 12, 2007, composer Linda Kernohan ended a creative dry spell by writing a short piano piece as a birthday present for her husband. She was so pleased with the result that she decided to write a piece of music every day for thirty days, and post an mp3 file on her blog, missmusicnerd.com. By the time she completed The 30 Days Project, Ms. Kernohan had composed fifty minutes of music altogether, with pieces ranging from thirty seconds to four minutes long and covering a variety of musical genres, from twelve-tone serialism to bluegrass. She created her recordings using digital piano, MIDI instruments, and electronic sounds, as well as recordings of cicada song used by permission of the University Of Michigan Museum of Zoology.

Linda Kernohan has had her music performed across the U.S. and Europe, and has played the piano and organ in a wide variety of venues, from a West Hollywood nightclub to the Basilica of St. Peter in the Vatican. Linda holds bachelor's and master's degrees in music, and is currently a Ph.D. candidate in composition at the University of California, San Diego. She writes a blog called Miss Music Nerd (missmusicnerd.com), billed as "not your Mama's music appreciation." Earlier this year, she was selected as the Community Blogger for Classical Music for the 52nd GRAMMY® Awards. She currently serves as Minister of Music at St. John's Episcopal Church, Jamaica Plain.

Ms. Kernohan is thrilled to realize her longstanding dream of having The 30 Days Project pieces performed as a live concert, with the help of the talented musicians of the Inter-NEC Collective.  The Inter-NEC Collective is a group of students, alumni, and faculty from the New England Conservatory of Music who are dedicated to Inter-Departmental collaborations.  Formed in 2009, our goal is to present performances where students from NEC’s many diverse programs of study come together to contribute to the same works, producing sounds that blur the line between individual departments.  As many of these performances take place outside of NEC, the Collective hopes to offer new ties between varying institutions, communities, and art forms.  Collective members performing on this concert include: Piano: Evan Allen, Katie Balch, Yijuan Geng, Alex Zhu; Flute: Elizabeth Erenburg; Oboe: Paul Lueders; Clarinet: Jay Hutchinson; Horn (and Coordinator): Jason Belcher; Bassoon: Joelle Wagner; Saxophone: Evan Allen, Jacob Seikman, Billy McShane; Violin: Mia Friedman, Alex Zhu; Viola: Matt Consul; Cello: Daniel Hawkins; Bass: Dorsey Bass; Percussion: David Tarantino, Neal Markowski.
