Ramona Borthwick Quintet

Thursday, Sept. 2nd, 2010, at 7:00 PM

JP Concerts presents Ramona Borthwick Quintet, with jazz pianist and composer Ramona Borthwick, Rick DiMuzio on saxophone, Noel Borthwick on guitar, Bruno Raberg on bass and Lee Fish on drums. The group will perform original music from her latest CD release, ‘One Of Us’. A gifted composer, Borthwick's music draws influences from contemporary post-bop, ECM jazz, classical music and her legacy from India. Suggested donation $10.

Here’s what critics are saying about ‘One Of Us’:

"Borthwick, who authored all the pieces in this self- produced and self-released CD (‘One Of Us’), walks both sides of the street, playing excellent, if not quite distinctive, straight-ahead piano throughout, while adding her shimmering, wordless soprano lines to selected ensembles along the way.”
John McDonough, 'HotBox', DownBeat Magazine

"I like the warm spiritual vibe, especially Borthwick's wordless vocals, a la Flora Purim."
Paul deBarros, 'HotBox', DownBeat Magazine

"Borthwick has a lyrical, uncluttered approach to the piano and her undoubted virtuosity never overshadows the melodicism inherent in her compositions...‘One Of Us’ is a delightful reminder from Ramona Borthwick and her quintet that jazz this good never goes out of style."
